Heating the home can be expensive and almost everyone these days has their home connected to mains gas and electricity grid, especially in towns and cities of developed and developing countries , but if you want an alternative heating solution, here are some options.

Renewable energy has been around for a long time but has become a lot more popular in recent years due to  people wanting to be greener and help the environment more. Solar energy is very popular and the government recently funded a scheme to get solar panels fitted to homes to reduce energy costs and help the environment, however solar panels, whilst reducing energy costs and reducing your carbon footprint simply cannot create the amount of energy needed to heat a home especially considering that heat is needed during the dark winter months and not during the summer when most of the energy from these panels is created.

The other renewable energy option is wind energy, which is great for producing free clean energy if you have a large hillside wind farm or one of those massive offshore wind farms, but a single wind turbine in your garden isn’t going to produce anywhere near enough energy to heat your home, if it could then what about non-windy days?

Whilst renewable energy is excellent at producing small amounts of electricity to lessen your energy costs a little it’s just not a viable option for heating a modern home, even a relatively small one, especially here in the UK where heating is needed for six to seven months of the year and maybe going back to basics is what is needed.

Coal had been the fuel of choice from the 1800’s right up until the 1980’s when coal mines here in the UK closed and the popular fuel became more expensive, nowadays people are converting their fireplaces and installing wood burners to heat their homes. Burning wood is very cost effective and gives off a lot of heat.

One Wigan firewood supplier says they are selling more firewood and Kiln Dried Logs than ever and are in fact having to replenish their stocks every couple of days to keep up with demand, but why buy firewood? Isn’t there enough free scrap firewood wood lying around or being given away free?

Of course you can burn scrap wood on your wood burner or wood burning stove but its not practical as it wont burn as long or as hot as properly seasoned fire logs. To work economically, wood burners and wood burning stoves need fuels that have very little moisture, this is where Kiln Dried Logs come in. The highest quality dry kilned hardwood logs come direct from Latvia and have less than 20% moisture content for a superior burn.

Bryn Coal supply various brands and grades of coal and smokeless fuel as well as a selection of Kiln Dried Logs, Firewood, Fire Logs and Seasoned Logs for use on log burners, wood burner, wood burning stoves, chimineas etc. They supply the whole of the north west including Liverpool,  Manchester,  Warrington,  Merseyside,  Wigan,  Westhoughton,  Cheshire,  Bolton,  Rochdale,  Leigh,  St Helens and  Wirral.
